Fly Tied by Umpqua Feather Merchants

Professionally Tied | Free Shipping over $49 | Low Price Guarantee

A streamer fly that's been fooling predatory fish since the 50s, no angler's fly box is complete without a few Deceivers. Created by the world-famous Lefty Kreh to fool striped bass in the Chesapeake Bay, his Deceiver was designed with a fish shape, an ability to be tied in almost any length, and the convenience of reducing fouling when casting. Almost needless to say, the Deceiver checked all of Lefty's boxes and remains relatively unchanged today.

While the Deceiver was originally crafted for saltwater use, it's a fly that you can take just about anywhere with confidence—from hungry bass, large trout, and even offshore species, this fly catches fish. The Deceiver can be fished in a number of colors and sizes, especially to match the forage fish in your water, but a few staples are all white, all black, and chartreuse over white in sizes 1/0-3/0. Whether you're just getting started in the salt or need to add some tradition to your freshwater bass box, the Deceiver is a fly that you won't want to miss.

When all else fails, just switch colors on the deceiver.

"Great looking flies, tied right. Nice choice of colors and sizes. Weighted work great in 6-12 ft of flats water. Unweighted for the water under six feet deep. I like chartreuse and white in the skinny water around mangroves. Give me black or black and purple where the water drops off. All you’ve got to do is switch deceivers to stay in front of the fish."
