Description
The Echo Lift Kit Fly Rod Outfit is the box you buy when the goal is to be fishing next weekend rather than shopping for another month. Bought piece by piece, a rod, a reel, a line, backing and a leader are five separate decisions, and the usual result is a rod that outclasses the reel or a line that never quite loads the rod. Echo builds the Lift Kit the other way around. You get a four piece Lift rod, an Echo Base reel, a floating fly line, backing, a tapered leader and a fabric covered case that carries the rod and the reel together, all chosen by the people who designed the rod. Echo is Tim Rajeff's brand, and Rajeff Sports builds the whole outfit, which is why the pieces are matched rather than assembled from whatever was cheap that season.
We stock all four kits Echo builds, and every one is a four piece rod with a medium fast action, so the only real choice you are making is line weight and length. The LIFT-480 is 8ft for a 4wt at 3.4oz, the short rod for small creeks, brushy banks and panfish. The LIFT-590 is 9ft for a 5wt at 3.7oz, the standard trout outfit for dry flies, nymphs and indicator rigs. The LIFT-690 is 9ft for a 6wt at 3.9oz, the pick when you want to throw streamers, bushy dries and hoppers, or fish bigger water and more wind. The LIFT-890 is 9ft for an 8wt at 4.5oz, the bass, carp, salmon and light saltwater weight.
Blank
Medium Fast Action - Echo describes the Lift as built on the shoulders of the ECHO Base series with updated actions to suit a wider range of casting styles, and every model in the kit is rated medium fast. Echo's own explanation of action is the useful part for a first rod: a medium action rod suits a more fluid casting stroke and has a larger sweet spot across a wider range of strokes, where a fast action rod rewards an aggressive stroke and tight control. A medium fast blank bends far enough down the rod that you can feel it load, which is how casting timing actually gets learned, and it still has enough butt to turn over a weighted nymph rig or a small streamer. It is a forgiving taper without being a slow one.
Four Piece Travel Design - All four models break into four sections, so the rod fits in a suitcase or behind a truck seat instead of riding on a roof rack. Echo prints the length and line weight on the blank just above the grip, which sounds trivial until you own two rods and cannot remember which tube holds the 5wt.
Guides
Echo lists chrome guides on the Lift. Chrome plating is the corrosion resistant, hard wearing standard for a guide train, and it is what keeps the 8wt usable around salt provided you rinse it. Echo does not publish a guide brand, a stripping guide insert material, or a separate count of stripping and snake guides for this rod, so this listing does not state them. We hold these kits in stock, so if the guide train is a deciding factor, ask and we will look at one before you order.
Reel Seat
The Lift uses a black anodized aluminum reel seat, which is real hardware rather than the painted or composite seat that usually turns up on an entry level outfit. Anodizing is a hard oxide layer, so the threads keep turning after a season of rain and rinsing instead of pitting or seizing. Echo's own maintenance guidance is worth following here: put a few drops of reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads occasionally and they will keep running smoothly for years.
Echo builds the Lift on two grip shapes. The lighter models use a slim single hand grip with no fighting butt, which is correct for trout rods that get palmed rather than braced. The 8wt is the model Echo builds on the fuller grip with a cork fighting butt, the short extension below the reel that you brace against your forearm when a fish is pulling hard enough that you cannot keep the rod up one handed. If the exact handle shape on the weight you want matters to you, ask us and we will confirm it against the rod in stock.
Included Reel
The kit includes the Echo Base reel. Be straight about how it is built, because that is where the price of the outfit comes from: the frame is a durable, impact resistant composite rather than machined aluminum. What that buys back is a reel that shrugs off the drop onto a gravel bar that dents a machined frame, and it keeps the outfit light enough that a beginner still building casting stamina is not fighting a tip heavy rig all afternoon. What Echo did not cut is the drag. The Base runs a maintenance free Rulon disc drag with low start up resistance and backlash free, instant engagement, and start up is the part that matters most on a beginner's reel: a drag that grabs before it slips is what breaks tippet the moment a fish turns and runs. The inner components are stainless. The retrieve converts from left to right hand without a trip to the shop, so a left handed winder is not stuck with the reel as it came. Echo rates the Base for 2wt through 8wt, which covers every rod in the kit range. Echo does not publish individual Base spool sizes, weights or backing capacities, so this listing does not state them.
Included Line, Backing & Leader
The Lift Kit is sold as a complete outfit, so a floating fly line matched to the rod, backing and a tapered leader come in the box with the rod, reel and case. Add tippet and a few flies and you are fishing. Two honest caveats. Echo does not publish the brand, taper or model of the included line, or the leader size, anywhere on its site, so this listing does not name them. Rajeff Sports distributes Airflo in North America and there is no Echo branded fly line, so the line in the box is not a mystery house brand, but we are not going to print a model number we cannot source. Echo also does not state whether the reel arrives already loaded with the backing and line. If you want that confirmed, or want the outfit spooled and rigged before it ships, ask us and we will sort it out before the box leaves.
Rod and Reel Case
The outfit packs into a fabric covered rod and reel case sized to carry the four rod sections and the reel together in one piece of luggage. That is the quiet practical argument for buying a kit rather than three boxes: the reel is never the component still sitting on the workbench when you get to the water. It also means the rod travels with a hard sided shell around it rather than in a cloth sock, which is the difference between a car door closing on a rod tube and a car door closing on a rod.
Warranty
A kit is two products with two different warranties, and the difference is worth knowing before you buy. The rod is covered over the natural life of the product for the original owner, at the discretion of Rajeff Sports. If you break it during normal fishing use, Echo will repair or replace it while the model is in production and repairable, for a service fee that varies by rod model. Echo does not publish a fee schedule: its policy states that every warranty and repair service carries a standard processing fee, that the amount depends on a few factors, and that it will be communicated to you when you submit your claim. The fee is waived when the failure comes down to a defect in materials or workmanship. If the model is discontinued or beyond repair, Echo offers a current equivalent replacement at 50 percent off MSRP. The warranty does not cover abuse, neglect, excessive wear or abrasion, saltwater corrosion, sun damage, vehicle accidents, theft, lost sections, or rods used as rental and outfitter gear. The Base reel carries a separate one year warranty, and a reel claim needs photos plus proof of purchase from an authorized dealer inside the previous calendar year, so keep your receipt. One thing that matters more on a first rod than on any other: Echo sells replacement tip sections for most current production models directly, which is usually faster and cheaper than filing a repair claim for the single most common breakage there is.
Echo asks for some basic care in return, and it is all easy. Rinse everything with warm fresh water after a day in salt, paying attention to where the guides meet the blank and to the metal on the reel seat. Keep sand and grit out of the ferrules. Paraffin wax on the ferrules helps if a joint starts feeling loose. Do not put tape on your ferrules.

Recommended Lines
The kit arrives with a line, so the question is what you add rather than what you need to start. When the included line wears out or you want a second spool, the Airflo Superflo Max Universal Taper Fly Line keeps you inside the Rajeff Sports family and is the direct all around upgrade for the freshwater kits. It has a slightly aggressive head that loads a rod quickly with fewer false casts, a polyurethane coating instead of PVC that will not crack from UV, sunscreen or DEET, and a low stretch Power Core that firms up hook sets at distance. One spool covers small dries in the morning and a double nymph rig under an indicator in the afternoon, which is exactly the range a 5wt or 6wt Lift is asked to work in. If you want the least expensive replacement rather than an upgrade, the Rio Mainstream Trout WF Fly Line is stocked from WF3F through WF10F and carries a slightly heavier, shorter head that makes a rod easy to load, which is a useful bias while you are still learning to feel the cast. If you want to feel the blank bend deeper at the short range where most trout fishing actually happens, the Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Infinity Fly Line is built a half size heavy on a versatile taper and handles dries, nymphs and streamers on one spool. For the 8wt in salt, the Airflo Superflo Max Flats Universal Taper Saltwater Fly Line is the right tropical choice, with a hard coating that stays slick on a hot deck instead of going limp, a high contrast haul zone that shows you how much line to carry before you shoot, and enough mass up front to push a crab or a weighted shrimp into a breeze.
