Description

The Zephrus Ultralite was hands down one of the best technical dry fly rods ever made. It also had the lightest swing weight of any rod we ever tested. Good news: Hardy has made the Zephrus Ultralite even better. Enter the Ultralite LL, Hardy's new for 2020 rod series built for technical trout fishing. From fine dry fly work to euro nymphing, this series truly covers every technical trout fishing scenario. From 9'2 models to 11'2 models, Hardy has shaken up the definition of 'dry fly specific fly rod'.

Blank

SINTRIX NSX Technology - The latest iteration of Hardy's SINTRIX blank technology is NSX. NSX combines SINTRIX with a secondary classified additive that allows Hardy to build rods with lower prepreg weights. This lighter material allows Hardy to modify the blank design without affecting the strength of the rod. The final result? Lighter, more responsive blanks that provide the angler with more feedback and feel and quicker recovery times.

Guides

Ceramic-Lined Titanium REC Recoil Guides - REC Recoil guides are extremely lightweight and highly practical. Don't worry about banging or bending your guides. If bent, recoil guides bounce back into place without warping. Plus, the titanium increases durability and the ceramic lining decreases line friction through the guides.

Black Pearl Recoil Guides - Similarly, black pearl recoil guides also rebound when bent or crushed. These guides decrease the overall rod weight for lightweight performance and durability.

Reel Seat

Custom Ultralight Reel Seat - True to its name, the reel seat of the Ultralite LL is designed to keep the rod lightweight. A carbon fiber insert is cut and replaced by lighter carbon leaving the rod blank exposed to decrease weight. The reel seat is stylish and incredibly unique.

Rod Tube

Aluminum Rod Tube - The Ultralite comes in a classic silver aluminum Hardy rod tube. These tubes are ultra-durable and super stylish for functionality and purpose.

Warranty

Hardy Worldwide Extended Warranty - Hardy's warranty covers repair or replacement of damaged, broken, or defective sections of the fly rod for the lifetime of the product. As of 4/17/2019, rods manufactured after 2002 require a $75 fee for repairs, handling, administration, and return postage.

Hardy Ultralite LL 9'9" 4wt Fly Rod Review

Hardy’s Ultralite LL rods are a ‘light line’ series loosely lumped together for various ‘long leader’ fishing applications with the competition angler in mind. Everything from Euro nymphing to technical dry fly fishing is covered. The 9’9” 4wt falls into the latter category, and it’s one of the more unique rods we’ve ever tested. Best of my 15 rods

"Call Jared at Trident and ask him about the 9'9" 3 wt. That rod needs its video review because the review above has little to do with the 9'9" 3wt. I called Jared and he told me not to buy another rod because I had basically every open slot in a full fly rod quiver filled. Then he said the only rod I should consider buying at this point is the Ultralite LL 3 wt 9'9". Not the 4 wt. Not the 9'. And not some other variation on the Ultralite. Only the 3 wt 9'9". Main points: 1. With a half of a wrist flick I can cast 35 ft. on small streams where there is little or no room to cast. 2. The very soft tip allows me to throw a very aggressive mend that barely moves my indicator. 3. I can reach over seams and get all my fly line off the water to eliminate drag. Downsides: 1. This rod isn't for long casts over 45'. 2. Not for casting in heavy wind. 3. Requires a low power casting style or else you'll overload the rod and lose your tight loop. This rod is best on smaller mountain creeks where you are often unable to do a backcast, though it casts beautifully and presents well under 45'. Also, landing fish on a 3 wt is way more fun than doing it on a 5 wt."

"This is by far the best and most versatile fly rod that I own. I was hesitant due to the $$$, but it is worth it!"

This is the way….

"I’m sort of a fly rod junkie, I have way too many fly rods for far to few days on the water. Since discovering Eurostyle fishing 5 or 6 years ago most of my other rods just stay home. But what about when you’re tightlining and a hatch pops off? Well that was my idea behind this 9’9” 4WT. Tightline creeks and small rivers with a mono rig and when using dry flies could be more effective (which is almost never) or simply more fun (which is almost always) pull off the mono rig and cast a traditional tapered leader. One rod, one reel, even one spool, and two highly effective ways to fish. For any followers of the Troutbitten guys this is also a highly effective way to fish streamers and almost anything else. So, the solution to way too many rods? One more 😉 I told my wife I just couldn’t catch fish without it."

Hardy Ultralite LL 0/2

"I find this rod to be sensitive and easy to cast dual fly mono rigs. It seems to protect tippet well when landing larger fish. So far the largest fish I’ve landed with it has been a 26” bull trout. Still sensitive enough to feel a 6” west slope cutthroat."

Great seller

"Tridents a great seller and great fly shop. I trust these guys!"

Hardy 10ft 8” 0/2wt rod

"Absolutely amazing! I’ve been absolutely satisfied with this rod and hardy reel. i started nymph fishing one year ago and found this rod to work for me from the start! From fishing the San Juan, Pecos, Rio Grande, Conejos and Rio Costilla this rod has excelled. Best rod i e ever used!"

HARDY ULTRALITE LL not for average fly casters

"This is not a rod for beginners, this is a fast and non forgiving rod for experts with good timing. The previous Zephrus Ultralite is more forgiving and the new Ultra lite LL leaves a gap for those who lived this more forgiving fantastic rod"
